DR. Isa Dutse was born on August 15, 1956 in Jigawa present Jigawa State. He attended Government College, Kano, Nigeria and came out with Division 1 in his West African School Certificate of June, 1973, and proceeds to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria were he backed Bachelors of Science (Economics) 2nd Class Honours, Upper division June, 1978.

In 1982 at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA got his Masters in Business Administration with concentration in Finance with emphasis on “Money and Banking.

At Finance and Accounting Division of Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, United Kingdom Mahmoud; got his Ph.D Business Administration in December 2009.

Isa Dutse worked with the Bank of the North from 1979-1986. And got a study leave between 1980 to 1982. He held various retail banking position including Branch Manager, funtua between 1983 – 1986.

Between 1986 to 1992 he was an assistant General Manager, Investment Bank with Continental Merchant bank Nigeria Limited, Lagos, Nigeria.

And Seconded to Gamji Bank of Nigeria Limited as General Manager/Chief Executive Officer; December 1988 to December 1991.

Mahmoud, was part of the pioneer team that nurtured Guaranty Trust Bank Plc between 1992 – 1995 as General Manager, Corporate Banking.

In April 1995, Isa Dutse joined the United Bank for Africa (UBA) as Deputy Director.

And by September 1995 he moved to Savannah Bank of Nigeria Plc as Managing

Director/Chief Executive Officer of until May 1996. It is on leave of absence from UBA Plc.

He was among the Team of experts appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation that led the Executive Management team to save the Savannah Bank from collapse.

Isa Dutse, after playing an active role during the privatization of UBA United Bank for Africa Plc was elevated to the board of the bank as Executive Director in March, 1996.

Mahmoud Isa Dutse voluntarily retired from the board at the end of two 3-year terms in August 2002.
