HOW TO WRITE A CV, When applying for a job or position, most opportunities and organisations requires that applicants submit a cv/resume. A CV is a document that contains basic details like personal data, educational qualifications, career objectives, experience records, seminars attended, skills acquired, awards and projects held.


It is very important to understand and observe the organisation you intend to submit your CV and their mode of operation so that you will know what best to put down in your CV that will be in accordance to the standard of the organisation before submitting.


When creating a CV you should have the following in mind before you start :

Here’s how to write a CV:
  1. Make sure you know when to use a CV.
  2. Pick the best CV format.
  3. Add your contact information the right way.
  4. Start with a CV personal profile (CV summary or CV objective)
  5. List your relevant work experience & key achievements.
  6. Build your CV education section correctly.

1 . know what information a CV generally contains : Endeavour to know ghetto basic information that a standard CV should contain. If possible research online about the content of a CV before creating one, also study and observe the organisation or company that you are applying to, to know the right and proper details to use.

2.Consider the job you are applying for : Always know the type of job you are applying for and it’s requirements before creating a CV.

3.Check the organisation or company’s website for extra information about the CV: You can always check the company’s website or journal to obtain extra information about them that needs to be in your CV while applying.

4. Keep your CV simple and compelling : Make sure to keep your CV in a simple way and in a great design and format that will be compelling and attractive to the eye of the reader.


The Format of a good CV should have the following :

Personal Data :This talks more about your profile and bio and should have the following – Full names, Date of birth, telephone number, email addresses, home address etc

Educational qualifications: This is to show enlightening, intelligent and capable you are. It includes all your educational backgrounds and certificates obtained.

Experience records: This is to know how exposed you are eg the places you have worked before, the position and duties that you have held before even the seminars you have attended before to. Experience requires your technical know-how.

Skills: This requires that you make a list of all the relevant skills you posses including your hobbies and interests.

Awards and projects : Don’t forget to put down any awards or projects that you have successfully handled before.
