Life in Nigeria compared to Ghana

  • Electricity

Electricity in Ghana. With standard voltage of 230 V and standard frequency of 50 Hz.  Power plugs and sockets  in Ghana are the type D and G.

    • Ghana has a steady power supply. and generates electric from hydro power, fossil-fuel (thermal energy), and renewable energy sources.

Nigeria generates, transmits and distributes megawatts of electric power that is less than basic household and industrial needs

Nigeria has the potential to generate 12,522 megawatts (MW) of electric power from existing plants, with 4,000 MW, which is insufficient to meet the Nigeria need

  • People

Ghana people are quite welcoming and easily smell a Nigerian from a distance. They are  not as aggressive, they are a bit laid-back. Most Nigerian hold the perception that Ghanaians are very dark in complexion, but that was wrong.

Nigeria people are probably the most industrious and hard working people with business mind set to create more wealth and dominate every area they found themselves. they are friendly, nice and accommodative, they are mixed in complexion and aggressive in nature.

  • Language(s)

Most communicate in Twi. Their pidgin (Chalé I make nice )is also different from what is obtainable in Nigeria. They also refer to almost everyone as Chalé. The English spoken by Ghanaians also differ from that of Nigerians.

English is the official language of Nigeria. English, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Fula, and English are widely spoken. Many of the languages exist in written form.

  • Cost of Living

This should have been the first point. The cost of living is way more higher that Nigeria. When I first came, I found it hard to buy some stuffs after converting the price to what I could have bought it when I was in Nigeria.

Cost of living in Nigeria is 55.04% lower than in United States, Rent in Nigeria is 46.48% lower

  • The Weather

EastLagon in Ghana. The weather can get very hot towards March little rain through out the year in EastLagon. the eastern region gets more of the rain.

Weather in nigeria, Harmattan is usually experienced at the lasting few weeks of December and January. harmattan period is always cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon.

  • Security

The country is way more safer then their ‘elder brother’ Nigeria. The police seems friendly.  Nigerian police are not friendly at all

  • National Pride

They seem to flaunt their colors a lot. Seems everything has a touch of their colors.

  • Road and Traffic

There isn’t much of a difference in the road network when comparing the two countries. The traffic here in Ghana can be gruesome but nothing compared to Lagos traffic. The roads are also ladened with potholes as in Nigeria.

  • The Music

Nigerian music is played a lot. There are also a lot of collaboration between the musicians from the two countries. The likes of Sarkodie, Shatte Wale, Stonebwoy, Becca are seen as ‘gods’ here even though they speak a lot of their local language.
